David L. and DeeAnn C. Benton of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Laura Lane Benton to Thomas Stephen Louie, son of Benjamin and Susan Louie of Mount Pleasant, S.C.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Carter of Gainesville and Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Benton of Avondale Estates.

She is a 2003 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2007 from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., with a bachelor’s degree in education. She is employed as a clinical educator with The Phoenix Center in Greenville. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Lai Har Louie of Cleveland, Ohio, the late Mr. Thomas Louie, the late Mr. Gan Co and the late Mrs. Lydia Gan.

He is a 2003 graduate of Wando High School in Mount Pleasant. He graduated in 2007 from Furman University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He is employed as an underwriter with Canal Insurance Co. in Greenville. He is a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.

The couple plans to wed April 19, 2008, in Charleston, S.C.
