Racing around the woods as a caped crusader or scary skeleton is the kind of fun Elachee Nature Science Center plans to provide during its annual Trick-or-Trek Trail Run next weekend.

Participants will dress up in a costume, collect treats and win a prize for best costume all while racing through the forest, across creeks and up and down steep to moderate hills and stairways in Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve.

The race is a single and double track off-road running experience. Runners will start on the nature center parking lot and road, but will find themselves among large trees and creeks. The terrain consists of rolling hills, single track, double track, roots, rocks, bridges, along with some technical sections (tight and twisty).

The 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer or half-marathon will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 1. Water and Gatorade will be available for the 10K and half-marathon runners.

Elachee will hand out medals and prizes to the overall top three male and female finishers for each race as well as in the masters and grandmaster categories.

Walkers are encouraged to participate; however, you should be able to complete within four hours to receive an official time.

Entry fees are $25 for the 5K or $30 on race day; $35 for the 10K or $40 on race day; and $45 for the half-marathon or $50 on race day.

To register, visit www.runnersfit.com/trickortrek.

Packet pickup and race day registration will be 8 a.m.-9:15 a.m. Shuttles to the starting area will cease at 9:45 a.m.

Parking will be off-site and shuttles will run until 15 minutes prior to race start. After the race begins, Elachee Drive will be closed for the duration of the event.

All proceeds benefit Elachee Nature Science Center, a nonprofit that provides quality environmental educational programming and preserves the 1,400-acre Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve.
