Georgia’s bustling wine industry showcases its barrels of wine in the summer with festivals and activities.

Adults interested in sipping a glass of wine at a North Georgia winery alongside their furry friends can start the festival season May 7 at Three Sisters Vineyards.

The vineyard is hosting its annual VineDog, a pet-friendly weekend of wine tasting. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 7, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 8.

All dogs must be on a leash and under owner control at all times. Every dog receives a treat and all dog lovers are encouraged to take part in a “yappy hour” either day.

WineFest, Helen

Wine festival season in the region kicks off Saturday, with nearly 20 wineries from across the region gathering at Habersham Winery in Helen for the 24th annual WineFest.

From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 7, wineries will serve four types of wines each, totaling about 80 wines during the event. For $30, guests will receive 15 tasting tickets and a souvenir glass.

Participating wineries are members of the Winegrowers Association of Georgia, the event sponsor. The nonprofit corporation promotes and markets Georgia wine and increases public awareness of Georgia wines.

“This annual fundraising event is engaging and fun way to introduce consumers to the award-winning wines we are making in Georgia while providing funds needed to promote and grow the wine industry,” said Emily DeFoor, general manager of Habersham Winery and vice president of the nonprofit. “The wine industry in Georgia is growing exponentially each year, creating jobs, contributing to the local economies, saving family farms through new agricultural opportunities and boosting tourism.”

Dahlonega Arts & Wine Festival

Nearby on the historic downtown Dahlonega square, Chestatee Artists will present the Dahlonega Arts & Wine Festival.

The event will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 and will feature arts, crafts, live jazz performances and a wine garden with local and regional wines. Artists and fine art grafts can find applications for the juried show at www.chestateeartists.org.

Georgia Wine Country Festival

If drinking a glass alongside a few furry friends doesn’t interest you, Three Sisters Vineyards has additional events in the summer.

The event includes a wine garden featuring guest wineries from across the state. Live music and Southern-inspired food trucks will be available.
