Classic and modern Broadway show tunes and classic hymns will be heard across college and church campuses alike this month.

Student choirs will perform several free concerts on the University of North Georgia Dahlonega campus and in Gainesville.

An evening of musical theater featuring selections from “Wicked,” “Les Misérables,” and “Into the Woods” will take centerstage April 10-11 at the Gloria Shott Performance Hall on UNG’s Dahlonega campus.

Lee Barrow, music professor at UNG, called the students “a talented bunch.”

“At times you’ll be rolling in the aisles and at others you’ll be deeply moved,” he said. “I have been thoroughly impressed by what they have accomplished this semester.”

The show will include a one-act, comic opera spoof, “The Stoned Guest,” by musical parody artist P.D.Q. Bach.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 10 and 2 p.m. April 11.

Before the Broadway performances, the Symphonic Band as well as UNG Chorale and Men’s Ensemble will deliver their own concerts. The Symphonic Band will perform first at 8 p.m. today in the Merritt E. Hoag Auditorium on the Dahlonega campus. The UNG Chorale and Men’s Ensemble will follow with their annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. April 9 at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville.
