Nationally acclaimed jazz singer Tish Oney will swing into spring during The Arts Council’s “Evenings of Intimate Jazz” next week.

The concert will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at The Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center, 331 Spring St. SW, in Gainesville.

Tickets are sold out, but $30 listen-only tickets will be available at the door.

Oney, who sings and plays piano, will be joined on stage by Elisa Pruett on acoustic bass and Justin Varnes on drums.

The concert will feature Oney’s original songs and arrangements from Michel LeGrand, Freddie Hubbard, Jerome Kern, Horace Silver and Benny Goodman.

Oney completed her doctorate of musical arts degree in jazz studies and performance at The University of Southern California’s renowned Thornton School of Music. A mainstay in the Los Angeles and New York jazz scenes, she has been lauded in the 2008 book “The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide” authored by jazz critic Scott Yanow.

She has also been honored to be named the 2011-12 Robert G. Boehmler Visiting Artist at Ithaca College School of Music. A recipient of The Diane Warren Award, Oney earned a second initiation into national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda for her musical excellence.

She continues to record, compose, arrange, teach master classes and appear worldwide as a soloist in jazz and classical circles. In addition to her very full touring and recording career, Oney serves as director of vocal studies at University of South Carolina Upstate teaching commercial music.
