Three comics kick off new year at Aurora

Atlanta comic icon Dan Mengini will headline this weekend’s comedic talent at Aurora Theatre.

Mengini, who has been seen in hit movies and television shows, will perform at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 128 E. Pike St. Joining him will be comics Mike Haun and Jeremy Mesi, along with Aurora Comedy Nights hostess Katie Causey.

Mengini is a stand-up comedian and actor who was born in Bermuda and raised in the United States. His notable television appearances include Showtime’s “Homeland,” USA Network’s “Necessary Roughness,” Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva,” The CW’s “One Tree Hill,” and a starring role on Adult Swim’s live action shows “The Restless Bell” and “The Rising Son.” He also has appeared in more than 50 national TV commercials. Mengini tours comedy clubs, colleges and performing arts venues.

Haun was named Atlanta’s Best Comic by Dave FM in 2008, the South’s Funniest Person in 2009 and Atlanta’s Top Comic in 2012. Mesi is a polished comedian who has opened for Kathleen Madigan, Howie Mandel and Ron White at places such as The Punchline and Lakewood Amphitheater.

Causey is a member of multiple improv and sketch comedy groups in Athens and in Atlanta. She is a UGA grad and an alumnus of the Aurora Theatre Apprentice Company.
