Gainesville High School Theater troupe to perform musical next week

The romance of an orphaned peasant girl and the rich city boy whom she saves from death will be revived in the one-act musical “Once on this Island” at Gainesville High School.

The school’s theater troupe will tell the story of Ti Moune, who is destined to love too much for the human heart to bear. In the musical, she uses the power of love to break down social barriers. Watching from afar and intervening at their pleasure, are the gods of water, death, love and the earth. Each gives depth to a musical about life, pain, love, grief, faith and hope.

Winner of the Oliver Award for Best New Musical, “Once on this Island” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7-9 at Gainesville High School, 830 Century Place, in Gainesville.

Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults.

Tickets can only be requested ahead of time by emailing with the number of desired tickets along with the date and day as well as the name of the main ticketholder.

Tickets may be picked up the night of the show. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. Ticketholders will pay for the tickets at that time.
