Aspiring filmmakers from North Georgia will debut their work in the short film festival "Check Out Our Shorts" from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday at The Historic Holly Theater in Dahlonega.

"Check Out Our Shorts" is collaboration between the community and North Georgia's students, faculty and staff. Attendees can dress in their best Oscar-esque attire and join student hosts Remo Gonzalez and Hannah Moore for the festival, which will include a red carpet, "paparazzi" and a juried awards ceremony.

A cookout reception will precede the screenings at the theater, with university President Dr. Bonita Jacobs expected to attend.

Awards at the festival will include cash prizes for the winners and a "Text-In" audience award.
