The definition of a picnic is a trip or party that includes a meal eaten outdoors, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

The Unity Picnic is just that with the bonus of promoting solidarity and understanding within humankind, according to a news release.

Founded by the Baha’is of the United States, the annual event will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 12, in the Dogwood Pavilion at Longwood Park. The pavilion is on the opposite side of the tennis courts on the north end of the park, which is across from Gainesville High School at 20 Pearl Nix Parkway in Gainesville.

The free picnic will include hot dogs, chips, cookies and lemonade. Balloons and activities for children will be available. And a display and entertainment promoting the unity of humankind will be on site.
