2002 National Scottish Fiddle Champion Jamie Laval will join forces with Roger Gold to entertain dancers of all ages at two dances this weekend in Gainesville.

The first will be the free Sweet Swing and Waltz Dance from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Northeast Georgia School of Music & Dance at 123 Green St.

The second will be the monthly contra dance with calling by Deanna Palumbo from 8-11 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 751 Green St., Gainesville. A lesson will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

Admission to the first event is free. Tickets for the second will be $10 for adults, $5 for teenagers, or $20 for a family maximum. Children and nondancers may enter for free.

Between the two dances, residents may bring a picnic dinner to the Family Life Center’s activity room. However, the band, caller and other staffers will be setting up and running a sound check.

Organizers ask participants to clean their dinner space before the dance starts. The activity room has tables, chairs and a sink.
