October brings more with it besides turning leaves and cooler temperatures. It also marks the fall Blue Sky Concert Series in downtown Gainesville.

The series is hosted by Main Street Gainesville and is sponsored by the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department.

The concerts are scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday in October on the square in downtown Gainesville. Each week will feature a different act showcasing a different genre of music.

The Oct. 7 season opener will feature the Steve Bryson Band, a country act. Other genres that will be represented are blues and southern rock, contemporary jazz and classic rock.

The events are free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring their blankets and lawn chairs. The first 25 concertgoers will receive a reusable water bottle at each concert.

Although music lovers can bring their own picnic lunch, they will also have the opportunity to buy a lunch from a featured vendor for less than $6 at each concert. Lunches next week will be provided by Deep South Dogs. Upcoming vendors are Luna’s Restaurant, Collegiate Grill and Atlas Pizza.

The Main Street program holds a number of events each year to encourage visitors to visit downtown Gainesville. The group also is host to Trick or Treat on the Square and Art in the Square.
