Northwinds band, Brenau singers to perform Christmas concerts
2 concerts to take place Nov. 28 and 29, respectively

For holiday junkies ready to get into the Christmas spirit right after Thanksgiving, two area concerts will provide the sounds to amuse and excite you this season.

First will be the holiday concert titled “Christmas Around the World” directed by Brenau University Assistant Professor Bobby Ivey at the college in downtown Gainesville.  Part of the “Concerts Connecting Cultures” series, the show features Brenau’s Spectrum Singers and Vocal Chamber Ensemble singing international Christmas music.

The free performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, in the Hosch Theater at the Burd Center, 305 Boulevard, Gainesville.

Second will be the Northwinds Symphonic Band’s Christmas concert titled “Gloria.”

Featured soloists will be Michelle Martin and Jonathan Jackson. They will sing “Cantique de Noel,” “White Christmas” and “ Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Other favorites are “Suite from the Nutcracker,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “Greensleeves.” The band will introduce new musical selections, including “Midnight Sleighride,” “Christmas Day,” “Gloria” and “Minor Alterations, Christmas Through the Looking Glass.”

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the banquet hall of First Baptist Church at 751 Green St. in Gainesville.
