North Georgia orchestra strikes up for spring

The North Georgia College & State University Orchestra will present its Spring 2011 concert at 8 p.m. Friday in the Hoag Student Center Auditorium, located on the main campus of North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega. General admission for the concert is $5 for adults and $2 for students.

The concert will prominently feature three senior orchestra members who have made significant contributions to North Georgia’s music program.

Carla Ganyard — concertmaster and recipient of the 2010 Dismukes Distinguished Musician Award — will assume a solo role in "Souvenir d’un lieu cher" by Peter Tchaikovsky. Oboists Sarah Dean and Ryan Jarchow will be featured in Tomaso Albinoni’s Concerto in F Major. The program will also include Samuel Barber’s haunting "Adagio for Strings," along with "Czech Suite," by Antonin Dvorak.
