If you’re looking for a good way to rope in support for local veterans, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Post 8452 is hosting its inaugural Horseless Rodeo from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, on the campus of Riverside Military Academy, 2001 Riverside Drive, in Gainesville.
The Horseless Rodeo is a fundraiser for Veterans of Foreign War. It’s a hilariously fun event for the whole family. Twelve teams of four will compete in two different age groups (12-20 and 21 and older) in funny events such as a stick horse barrel race, a Hula Hoop toss, water cup race, dart balloon contest and more. Admission is free and there will be a concession stand offering hamburgers, drinks and desserts. There also will be door prize drawings, an all day-silent and auction-rodeo clowns.
From 8-10:30 p.m., the Hall County Rock ’n’ Roll cover band The Retro Rock-Its will perform at the VFW at 1955 Delta Drive in Gainesville. Dancers are encouraged to put on their dancing shoes and bop to golden hits while enjoying reasonably-priced food and drink courtesy of post commander Charlie Brown. Cover charge for the band is $6, which helps fund the good works of the Gainesville VFW. For more information, contact Linda Henderson at lindaluckylady@yahoo.com or 678-234-0642.
