An alternative hard rock band from Gainesville that has played the Northeast Georgia scene for six years is tonight's opening act for Saliva at 37 Main in Buford.
Gravity Zero, led by guitarist and vocalist Mickey Lee, has played at the Hard Rock Cafe, the Masquerade and Wild Bill's, but this will be the first major national act the band has played with.
Lee and bassist Alex Martinez played a few shows together in their old bands, Liquid Fuzz and Ten over Six, respectively, around summer 2004, and they "got together and decided to form Gravity Zero," Lee said.
The two teamed up with Derrick Gadiss on lead guitar and Johnny Massey on drums to complete the lineup.
Looking to the 1990s for their sound, Lee said their music is influenced by, "Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, and I'd say Guns N' Roses."
Gravity Zero is currently touring around Georgia and Florida, playing both original material and cover songs.
"We're also working on recording our new album, which should be out in the spring of next year," Lee said.
Anyone interested in rocking out to some local music can head out to 37 Main at 8 tonight. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 at www.etix.com, or bought at the door for $15.
