More info:

Gainesville Theatre takes aim at the romantic musical comedies of the 1920s with a spoof in “The Boy Friend.”

Set against the backdrop of the French Riviera, the story focuses on English heiress Polly and her longing for only one thing: A boyfriend.

Convinced any boy who isn’t wealthy will court Polly strictly for her financial situation, Polly’s father forbids her to engage any potential suitors. Polly plans to honor her father’s wishes. However, she has fallen in love with Tony, a local messenger boy. To continue the romance, she tells Tony she is not a rich girl.

This is just the tip of the mistaken identity iceberg as love finds its way through nearly every member of the cast and bring them all to a happy ending.

The student production will be at 7:30 p.m. March 3-5 at Gainesville High School, 830 Century Place, Gainesville.

Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults. Only cash and checks are accepted.
