Hundreds of motorcyclists will rally in Gainesville this weekend before enjoying a scenic trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway en route to Asheville, N.C.
The ride, Thunder on the Parkway Atlanta to Asheville, will leave at 7 a.m. Saturday from Wild Wing Cafe, 311 Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville.
The ride is $25 per individual rider or $35 for a rider and passenger. Proceeds from the picturesque ride will benefit Hall-Dawson Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children.
In addition to more than 200 riders, some of whom have traveled from faraway states like California, Michigan and Indiana, the trip will also include a police escort to and from Asheville.
Interested riders will have the opportunity to pre-register at the “Biker or Not” meet and greet beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Wild Wings.
The pre-ride event will include live music, vendors, food and a chance to mingle with other motorcycle enthusiasts.
Once kickstands go up Saturday morning, ride organizers expect to arrive in Asheville around 1:30 that afternoon. The schedule includes four stops to refuel.
Upon arriving in North Carolina, riders will be invited to partake in a catered lunch of Western Carolina-style barbecue and a second meet and greet.
After lunch, riders can opt to return to Gainesville with the police escort or continue on to the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds for a larger-than-life event with hundreds of motorcyclists from all over the U.S.
