This weekend, downtown Clarkesville will look like a scene out of a fairy tale.

On Friday and Saturday, the Historic Mauldin House gardens will be transformed into the Magical Gardens of Mauldin, an enchanted fairy and dragon village.

"The gardens have been home to fairy villages before, but the Magical Gardens of Mauldin is a first-year event," said Mary Beth Horton, Clarkesville Better Hometown Manager. "This year, we are incorporating dragons as well as fairies."

The magical event is free and open to the public. The pint-sized village will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The concept for the enchanted garden was inspired by the town's annual, "Fairy Haute Couture" fashion show.

"A group of local artists came up with the idea, based upon the popularity of the fashion show. The show is comprised of scaled-down mannequins that showcase diminutive ‘fairy' designs, all incorporating wings as part of the overall look," Horton said.

"The Mauldin House gardens are a perfect place to host this event, as it is completely in bloom."

Children are invited to put on their "fairy best" to explore the diminutive village and take part in a dragon hunt. There will be live theatrical performances, face-painting and storytelling.

"We will have interactive performances with the children, encouraging them to explore the gardens, go on dragon hunts and protect fairies with fairy dust," Horton said.

"We will also have craft stations where children can get dragon tattoos and fairy dust."

The Mauldin House in located at 458, Jefferson St., Clarkesville.
