Daylilies spring up at annual sale
Society hosts annual event at State Botanical Gardens

Knowing each daylily flower only lasts for a one day, the North Georgia Daylily Society has selected Saturday, June 20, as its annual daylily show and flower sale.

Admission is free for the show featuring the flower with buds that bloom for one day. However, since many flower buds are on each stalk and many stalks arise in a clump of plants, gardeners get much more bloom time. This, along with its range for colors, shapes and sizes make the daylily seem to last longer and have more than one flowering period. Some cultivars describe it as the perfect perennial.

The event will begin with sales at 11 a.m. at the State Botanical Garden Conservatory, 2450 S. Miilledge Ave., in Athens. Daylily displays will be open to the public after the 1 p.m. judging. For more information, visit
