Coro Vocati to perform at First Presbyterian in Gainesville

Professional singers from Atlanta aim to inspire audiences with the upcoming performance of “Folksongs: The Stories and Voices of the People.”

Coro Vocati will deliver a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at First Presbyterian Church, 800 Enota Drive NE, Gainesville. The musical selection includes songs by Johannes Brahms and Maurice Ravel and American pieces from the Appalachian region, including arrangements by Aaron Copland and Stephen Foster.

Tickets are $15 for adults and free for children and students with ID at the door.

Coro Vocati serves as a master class for singers. It is directed by John Dickson, director of choral studies and chair of the division of ensembles and conducting at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

The concert is the first of four in the church’s Fine Arts presentations. Future performances will include flutist Cain-Oscar Bergeron, actor Brad Sherrill, and the Georgia Mountain Players. Bergeron has played at Lincoln Center. Sherrill is America’s best known solo Biblical actor. He will present Red Letter Jesus. The Georgia Mountain Players will come out of retirement and be joined by the Chuck Nation Band and Michelle Martin for two performances of bluegrass, gospel and Patsy Cline.
