A much-loved tradition is once again visiting the streets of downtown Flowery Branch.

“It’s a very cool, hometown environment,” event organizer Steve Soucie said. “There are all sorts of craft vendors, plus everything to do on Main Street. We wanted to make it a full, family-fun type event.”

Saturday marks the 11th annual Flowery Branch Car Show & Chili Cook-off. Additionally, the seventh annual ‘Bugs at the Branch’ will take place at the same time, featuring iconic Volkswagen models.

The events are set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 on Main Street in Flowery Branch.

The car shows will take up much of Railroad Avenue and Main Street, with parking available at either end of Railroad Avenue.

“We have expanded our car show parking,” Soucie said about this year’s event. “We have more space for more show cars.”

Car registration is the day of the event, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It costs $20 to register in the car show.

There is no fee for contestants in the chili cook-off; contestants can enter the blind judging competition or the people’s choice award.

“That’s a crowd favorite,” Soucie said. “The crowd comes by and tastes everybody’s chili, and then votes on it.”

Alongside the car shows and chili cook-off, arts and crafts vendors will have booths set up. Dancers with the Elite Dance Academy will perform, and a deejay will keep the atmosphere pumped with music.

“It’s just kind of a cool, old-timey fair environment,” Soucie said.

Sponsors for the event are the City of Flowery Branch, Branch House Tavern, Elite Dance Academy, Lazy Bear BBQ, Liberty Candy Company and Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, a rain date is scheduled for Sept. 20.
