Healan’s/Head's Mill advocates are in a celebratory mood. They are planning for the rebirth and restoration of the old mill in Hall County.
The free Boots and Bows event, with the opportunity to aid in the restoration project, will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the mill.
The event will include a Southern supper, live music by “Enuff O’ That” and tours of the mill and surrounding property plus other activities.
Parking will be at Airline Baptist Church, 3368 White Sulphur Road, in Gainesville. Shuttles will be provided to the mill from the church.
Hall County bought the 170-year-old gristmill and some 4 acres surrounding it off Whitehall Road at the North Oconee River in March 2003, using grant funding from the Trust for Public Land.
Some funding for the project comes from Hall County government’s most recent special purpose local option sales tax, and partly from a trust set up many years ago by Gainesville businessman W.L. Norton.
If you are unable to attend, donations may be mailed to: Heads Mill Historic Preservation Trust Inc., PO Box 1001, Gainesville, GA 30503. For information, call 770-540-8896.
