As the first day of school nears, Clarkesville is planning to supply students with some fun activities as well as necessary items before the bell rings Aug. 7.

The annual Back-to-School Bash will be from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville.

The bash will offer school supplies such as backpacks, paper, pencils and notebooks. Health screenings and haircut also will be available.

Once children collect supplies and partake of the free services, they may participate in activities ranging from swimming in the pool at 120 Paul Franklin Road or jumping in a bounce house. Face painting and other games will be available for children. Food and prizes also will be on hand.

The community event collects supplies and services from churches, businesses and service organizations. In the past three years, more than $150,000 in supplies, donations and services were received.
