Art association plans to memorialize John Kollock
Fundraising dinner scheduled for Friday night in Helen
Artist John Kollock helped devise the Alpine-themed look for the city of Helen. A dinner will raise money for a memorial in his name.

Fans and friends of famed artist John Kollock plan to remember the man who helped to create the theme and look of the Alpine Helen, literally.

To remember the man, Jerry and Gayle Murdock are hosting a fundraiser for the Helen Arts & Heritage John Kollock Memorial Project on Saturday at their home in the Innsbruck Golf Club Community in Helen.

Highlighting the event — which will feature a dinner, dessert bar, complimentary wines and art auction — will be a private concert by Hollywood entertainer James Darren. Darren starred in the popular 1959 film, “Gidget” along with Sandra Dee and Cliff Robertson in a story of a teenager’s initiation into the California surf culture and her romance with a young surfer.

The accomplished actor and singer also played a role in the 1961 World War II film, “The Guns of Navarone.” Later, he had a regular role on the television series police drama, “T.J. Hooker” from 1983 to 1986. Subsequently, he served as director on many action-based television series such as “Hunter,” “The A-Team,” “Nowhere Man” as well as dramas “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Melrose Place.”

The fundraiser is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. Seating is limited and reservations are required.

Tickets $100 per person. Call Gayle Murdock at 850-830-8847 for more information.
