Thompson: Project your Halloween spirit this year

Halloween is less than two weeks away. If you're still trying to come up with a really clever way to decorate your house for the holiday, I've got a suggestion for you.  Raise your garage door and cover the entrance with a large white sheet. Use duct tape to hold it in place. Borrow a computer projector from your office and hook it up to a laptop computer. With the computer projector inside the garage, aim it at the white sheet. Get a G-rated scary movie on DVD and load it onto your laptop. On Halloween night you'll impress the trick-or-treaters and your neighbors with your outside home theater. One suggestion, though: Most computer projectors have a "rear projection" mode that you'll probably want to use. This mode flips the image and allows the people outside of your garage to see the film as if it were on TV. (Contributed by Kevin Eicher).

Money-saving tip: There are a number of ways to save money; however, most of them require some sacrifice on your part. Here's a great tip on how to motivate yourself to do them. Create a "savings" diary. A good friend of mine, Bruce Feiman, has been doing this for years. What is it? Every night before Bruce goes to bed he records in a diary how much money he saved that day. For example, if he drank one less soda pop he'll show a dollar in savings. Bruce has turned saving money into a game. Each month he tries to do better than the previous month. My tip to you is that you don't have to do exactly what Bruce does, but it is important to find ways to make saving money fun. Give it a shot!

There are a lot of great old television shows that you can't find on TV anymore - shows like "Ironside" and "Have Gun Will Travel." Well, you can find them online at Fancast. This great Web site is free and easy to use. If the economy has you down, go check out an episode of "The Love Boat." You'll be transported back to the 1970s!

Speaking of great Web sites, let me suggest two other ones for you. The first is Fine Tuxedos. This Web site has a great selection of tuxedos that you can have shipped to you. You can even mix and match pants and jackets. The prices are pretty amazing. The second Web site is Delicious: Social bookmarking. This cool site is free to join and allows you to store the links to your favorite Web sites on their Web site. The benefit of using this Web site is that you can access your favorites from any computer. The site also lets you see the most bookmarked Web sites in the world. It's a great way to discover new things on the amazingly vast World Wide Web.

Worst tip I've ever been given: If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of a laxative - you'll be too afraid to cough.

Have a wonderful week!
