U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, is holding a town hall on Wednesday in Gainesville.

Collins will meet with constituents at 5:30 p.m. in the Gainesville Public Safety Building at 701 Queen City Parkway. The Republican has historically held town halls in August.

The Wednesday town hall will last one hour.

The event was announced Monday. For security reasons, no bags or signs will be allowed into the courtroom where the town hall is taking place, according to the announcement.

Collins also holds telephone town halls, where constituents can call into a teleconference line to pose questions and comments to the Gainesville Republican.

In May, Democratic groups gathered for a protest outside of Collins’ headquarters in downtown Gainesville.

The issue then was health care, as protesters feared a Republican-controlled Congress and White House could in short order roll back much of the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.

Collins and the rest of the Republicans in the House voted to repeal Obamacare, but the law sputtered to a halt in the Senate after several attempts to clear the upper chamber.

Collins has said it’s been frustrating in the House to watch health care reform fail in the Senate, where the GOP only holds 52 seats — eight seats short of the supermajority needed for legislative dominance.

Now, national lawmakers are trying to move on to tax reform. Collins himself is focusing on his work trying to expand rural access to broadband internet, criminal justice reform and regulatory reform. The announcement also highlights the improving American economy.

The town hall is open to all residents of Georgia’s 9th District.

Doug is a good man and I like him. However, I am for TERM LIMITS and he's been there for three terms. Any new congressman's first goal is to get re-elected - that MUST STOP.
I strongly PROTEST the constant breaks taken by congress when there is so much to get done. Americans want Repeal & Replace, Tax Reform and TERM LIMITS.
