One of the busier stations for Hall County Fire Services reopened Thursday, promising more spacious amenities for firefighters.

Renovations started in February 2016 for Station 7 on East Crescent Drive, a building first constructed in 1983 and previously serving as administrative headquarters until 2004.

“It was an older building and needed some work,” Capt. Zachary Brackett said.

The station was previously built to house seven people, creating a tight living space for those at the station. Brackett said about 10 members of the department are staffed at the station.

Floorings, ceilings and bathrooms were also addressed with the renovations, in addition to adding energy efficient lighting.

County officials said the growth along the Ga. 365 corridor led to the updates at Station 7.

During the renovations, fire personnel were moved to another part of the building that was not being improved.

“The previous bunk room … was a common bunk room,” Brackett said. “It was just an open dormitory, so to speak. Now each individual firefighter has their own bed there as far as their own space.”
