A Gainesville woman died Tuesday in a wreck in North Forsyth County.

Alicia Velazquez, 24, was riding in a 2009 Volkswagen Passat when it was struck by a 2004 F-150 pickup truck about 6:12 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Dahlonega Highway/Ga. 9 and Mountain Road.

The Passat was heading north on Ga. 9 when the driver, Joshua Gomez, 31, of Sugar Hill, reportedly attempted to turn left at the intersection, pulling into the path of the southbound 2004 Ford F-150, driven by Oscar Garcia of Cumming, according to a news release from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

A medical helicopter was requested to take Velazquez to a hospital, but “as the helicopter was inbound, her condition deteriorated to the point that she was not a flyable patient,” according to Forsyth County Fire Department Division Chief Jason Shivers.

She was instead taken by ambulance to the closest hospital, Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where she was pronounced dead.

Little & Davenport Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements for Velazquez. Funeral services hadn’t been set as of press time.

Velazquez was a Forsyth County resident with a Gainesville address. She lived off Waldrip Road inside Forsyth County, according to Forsyth Deputy Coroner Rick Wiggins.

Both Gomez and Garcia were transported to North Fulton Hospital with what were determined to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the news release. Charges are pending upon completion of the investigation.
