Holiday Marina patrons spot body of drowning victim

POSTED: September 4, 2014 10:59 a.m.

The drowning victim authorities have been searching for since Monday has been found.

The body of Christine Earwood, 49, of Duluth, was spotted around 9:15 a.m. Thursday.

“She was found around 9:15 (Thursday) morning by some patrons at Holiday Marina. They saw the body floating and called 911,” said Mark Mc-Kinnon, spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office and DNR were dispatched to the scene.

“We got there very quickly in our boats, and the divers were able to go in the water and recover her very quickly,” McKinnon said.

McKinnon said she was pronounced dead on the scene by the coroner.

Authorities were first notified of the woman’s disappearance Monday night, following a report in the Big Creek Park area of a woman jumping off a boat and never resurfacing.

Using side-scan sonar, sector-scan sonar and a remotely operated underwater vehicle, DNR searched the past two days for Earwood.

Due to the heavy rains Wednesday night, the search was suspended early, McKinnon said.
