My question is to the Times. Why do you seldom cover events out in the North and East Hall County? This past week Lula had an amazing Memorial Day Celebration.. You were invited. Not one word about it in The Times.
No coverage for the City Council Meeting at either Gillsville, Lula or Clermont. Our towns are important to us. I know I am not alone wanting to see more coverage about our area.
Spirit of Atlanta has been practicing daily at Riverside Military Academy and I see no mention of that. The reporters need to get out of the office a little more.
Why has the Hall County Elections board not updated its web site since the July elections.
When does early voting start for the November elections ?
Why does Flowery Branch High School have someone directing traffic in front of their school every morning and afternoon, while West Hall High School only has someone in the afternoons?
Will there be an effect on the jail's budget now that Fulton County has mandated that they bring all inmates back in house? Forsyth is building a new jail, although it will it not be ready for a couple of years, so they will no longer outsource. What is the plan for the new jail given the new alternative sentencing programs? I have heard different stories, one that is the jail is already falling a part and another that we were going to build a second tower.I do not know what to believe anymore, but seems like we built a San Quentin/Taj Mahal with out much fore sight. If the Fulton County and Forsyth County inmates are not there, then there is no reason to release non violent inmates earlier, which economically to me seems contradictory. Sort of like "we built it, and now lets fill it up". Remember the personnel, food, laundry and administrative costs. We do not make money running a jail.
Let's face it, we built a jail too far out, too big and too crappy. Yes this was on Cronic's watch. This jail could have easily been built closer to town to cut down on administrative cost of transferring inmates on plenty of land available including the property behind the DMV office. It is was already a halfway house and now serves as a State Probation office with plenty of land and facilities. I agree we needed a newer, bigger and more efficient jail out of down town, but building more than you need, on a dump site not close to the Court House was a better idea?
