The parables Jesus Christ used to teach his disciples about God’s love for them are coming to life with a little musical accompaniment in Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s production of “Godspell.”

Based on the Gospel of Matthew, the show puts Jesus’ life and his parables to songs from the 1970s.

The show’s director described it as episodic, classic parables from the Bible with a contemporary feel.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14-18 and 21-25 and 2:30 p.m. Feb. 19 and 25 in the Hosch Theatre in Gainesville. 2 Dog restaurant will cater an opening night reception Feb. 14 in the lobby.

Tickets are $24-$26 for adults, $22-24 for seniors and $14-$16 for students, depending on seat location. A $10 preview performance will be Monday.
