HS football scoreboard: North Hall defeats Salem (Va.) 42-31 in scrimmage

POSTED: August 23, 2013 11:33 p.m.

Andrew Smith and Brannon Dyer were the catalysts for the North Hall offense in a 42-31 scrimmage win against Salem (Va.) on Friday in Virginia.

Smith opened the scoring for the Trojans with an 89-yard kickoff return in response to a Salem field goal with 5:05 left in the first quarter. Smith scored again in the second quarter on a 60-yard run before Dyer put North Hall up 21-10 on a 32-yard touchdown run.

The Trojans took the 11-point lead into halftime and set to work in the third quarter, scoring first on a 40-yard run from Dyer. Salem returned the score, but Dyer put North Hall back up by 11 with an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at the end of the third quarter.

Smith closed out scoring with 6:26 left to play, taking the ball 26 yards for the touchdown. He finished the night with 140 yards on 14 carries, while Dyer ended with 109 yards on eight carries for the Trojans.

North Hall plays host to Chestatee in the regular-season opener next Friday in Gainesville.

Can someone please explain to me why a local school would go to Virginia to play a scrimmage game? Could money not be better spent?

LakeDawg: August 24, 2013 7:16 a.m.

Actually, tmac, the money is very well spent. The game is in Lynchburg, VA and the team did an educational field trip before the game. The area has a lot of Civil War history. Then the team played a very good team (Salem preseason #3)to prepare for the season. No tax dollars were used. The trip is completely funded by North Hall parents and supporters.

Thanks LakeDawg. Hopefully these young men learned something about the Civil War that they would have never learned in a classroom. Also great that no tax dollars spent.
