Update, Feb. 20: With a threat of icy roads Friday, several area schools have announced closures or delayed schedules. Here's the latest.

Officials with both Lumpkin County Schools and Habersham County Schools announced Wednesday afternoon that the systems would be closed Thursday due to the threat of winter precipitation.

"Habersham County has been placed under a Winter Weather Advisory beginning Thursday morning and lasting through the evening.  The main concerns are snow accumulation in northern Habersham County and temperatures falling throughout the day which could lead to poor road conditions. Habersham County Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 20th for students and staff," according to an emailed statement from Melinda Jenkins, administrative assistant to the superintendent.

"Lumpkin County Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 20, 2020, due to the forecast of inclement weather and potentially dangerous road conditions.  12-month employees should report if safe to do so," according to Associate Superintendent Sharon Head.
