AARP Tax-Aide Program. Volunteers who work four to eight hours weekly during tax filing season to assist elderly and low-income residents prepare income tax returns. Classroom and supervised training. Contact Jere Randall, 770-718-9511 or Tom Fox, 706-864-5657.

American Cancer Society. Drivers to transport cancer patients to and from treatment centers. Contact 770-297-1176.

American Red Cross. Volunteers needed for disaster relief teams, to train the community in preparedness services such as CPR, first aid, baby-sitting and life guarding, to welcome and register blood donors and serve refreshments, to assist in administrative services such as fundraising, public relations, translating, interpreting and office support. Angel Flight Southeast. Need volunteer pilots to provide free air transportation to medical facilities for citizens who are financially distressed or otherwise unable to travel on public transportation. Contact Scarlett Auten, 770-904-0904.

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs. Volunteers to help promote and administer program, find and interview families interested in being hosts to foreign exchange students and counsel foreign exchange students. Will provide training and reimbursement. Contact 800-473-0696.

Autumn Breeze Assisted Living. Volunteers to help residents with activities such as bingo, indoor horseshoes and music to help older adults remain active. Contact Ellen Bates, activities director, 770-297-1100.

Boys and Girls Clubs. Volunteers to help with general supervision of children, tutoring, art and physical education programs. Need coaches and referees. Help needed after 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. Contact 770-532-8102.

CASA. Court Appointed Special Advocates are needed to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. Volunteers are trained, screened and supervised. Training for the Hall-Dawson CASA program begins Aug. 19. Contact Lisa McCarthy 770-531-1964 or casaofhall@bellsouth.net.

Catholic Social Services Inc. Bilingual volunteers needed to assist in serving low-income Latino population. Needs include translation and interpretation for clients in the community, office assistance and computer class instruction. Contact 770-534-3337.

Center Point Mentor Program. Recruiting caring adults to become mentors for Hall County and Gainesville students. Time requirements include a two-hour training session and a commitment to meet with your student one hour a week (this includes travel time) for the duration of the school year. Challenged Child and Friends. Volunteers needed to work in classrooms of Northeast Georgia’s Early Intervention Center to work with children 6 weeks to 6 years old. Contact Joy Green, 770-535-8372, ext 120 or joy@challengedchild.org.

Compassionate Hospice. Individual volunteers and group organizations needed to help people coping with a terminal illness and their families. Flexible scheduling. Also looking for organizations to sponsor or participate in a charity event each year. Contact Steven Vanlerberghe, 678-717-0969.

Court Visitor Program. Volunteers to monitor the care, condition and assets of dependent adults, to work with families at problem solving and report to the court. Volunteers will be screened, trained and supervised. Contact Denise, Hall County Probate Court, 770-533-7830.

Crossroads Hospice. Hold a hand, listen, sing, run errands for a family or help in the hospice office. Free ongoing training. Flexible hours. Contact Ella, 770-270-9898 or hospicevolunteer@bellsouth.net.

Disability Resource Center. Volunteers needed to help people with disabilities remain independent through peer support, advocacy and helping with independent living skills. Volunteers also needed for building ramps and other home modifications. Contact Cynthia Myers, 770-534-6656.

The Disabled American Veterans Transportation Network. Drive veterans between Gainesville and the VA hospital in Decatur in the organization’s van. Contact Gene Boccumini, 770-869-7062.

Embracing Hospice. Visit patients in homes, read to patients, write letters, provide transportation, run an errand, prepare meals, provide hair care and light housekeeping. Perhaps the most important thing this volunteer offers is listening, sharing quiet moments, giving a gentle pat on the arm and just being there. Foreign Links Around the Globe. Volunteers to be hosts to foreign exchange students for five month semester or 10 month school year program. Contact 866-540-4029 or flagexchange@yahoo.com.

Gainesville Action Ministries. Volunteers needed to answer phones, schedule appointments, greet clients, help with building maintenance and entertain children while parents are being counseled. Gainesville-Hall County Alliance for Literacy. Need adults to be tutors for basic literacy class serving adults up to a fourth-grade reading level. Contact Dorothy Shinafelt, 770-531-4337.

Good News Clinics. Need Spanish-speaking interpreters, volunteers to assist with administrative duties, medical assistants, dental assistants and hygienists, nurses, physicians and nurse practitioners for the hours of 9 a.m.-noon or 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Happy Tails Pet Therapy Inc. Marietta-based group that serves Northeast Georgia needs members 18 and older and their pet dogs, cats or rabbits to brighten patients’ days at local health care facilities. Orientations held periodically. Contact 770-740-8211.

Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Need volunteers to sit with terminally ill patients in their homes, run errands and provide relief for family members in Banks, Barrow, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, northern Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Stephens, Union and White counties. Humane Society of Hall County. Need volunteers for animal socialization, to help play with and walk shelter adoption pets, mini-adoption specialists to assist with adoptions taking place at Gainesville PetSmart on Saturdays and special event volunteers. Interactive Neighborhood for Kids. Need volunteers to supervise exhibits, lead story time or teach arts and crafts activities on a one-time or ongoing basis. Contact 770-536-1900.

Junior Achievement of Georgia, Gainesville District. Need volunteers (business persons, parents, college students) to present classes in grades K-12 to inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics. LifeLink of Georgia. Need volunteers to assist with educational programs pertaining to organ and tissue donation and transplantation in North Georgia and other areas of the state. Contact 800-544-6667.

Mended Hearts of Northeast Georgia. Visit with heart patients and their families at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Volunteer in Ronnie Green waiting room or attend meetings at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month. Must be former heart procedure patients or spouses. Training provided. Odyssey Healthcare Athens. Need compassionate, friendly people to provide support and companionship for patients and families. Free training required; no minimum time commitment. Contact Ginger Gunter, 706-425-0700.

Pacific Intercultural Exchange. Host an international exchange student; volunteers must provide home, food and quiet study area. Or be an area representative and help place exchange students with families. 877-534-3144.
