Baseball state playoffs scoreboard: Falcons, Gainesville earn splits; Lakeview out

On the strength of an 11-run second inning, Class AAA's top-ranked Flowery Branch defeated Riverwood 15-0 Friday in Game 1 of the best-of-three first round playoff series.

Patrick Henry got the complete-game win, facing only 10 batters in three innings of work.

Game 2: Riverwood 9, Flowery Branch 4

Riverwood rallied back, scoring seven runs with two outs in the sixth inning Friday to force a decisive Game 3 in their first-round playoff series against the Falcons.

Game 1: Gordon Lee 14, Lakeview 13, eight innings

Gordon Lee overcame an early 11-2 deficit, then held off a late Lakeview charge to win in extra innings in Game 1 of their Class A first round playoff series.

Game 2: Gordon Lee 18, Lakeview 17

Gordon Lee edged the Lions in another slugfest, eliminating Lakeview from the postseason.

Game 1: Gainesville 4, Westminster 1

Zach Bennett hit his 12th hom run of the season in the first inning,a two-run and that was all the run support Robby Hefflinger needed.

Hefflinger pitched the full seven inning to earn his sixth win of the season and give the Red Elephants a 1-0 lead in the first-round playoff series.

Game 2: Westminster 4, Gainesville 0

Russ Conway helped Westminster even the series, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double.

Game 3 will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ivey-Watson Park in Gainesville.

Game 1: Jefferson 10, Trion 0, 5 innings

Game 2: Jefferson 18, Trion 0, 3 innings

The Dragons dominated their way to a first-round sweep Friday in Jefferson.

Jefferson hitters combined for 22 hits in eight innings of play in the two wins and junior Chris Beck hurled a three-inning perfect game in Game 2. Cameron Blinn picked up the win in Game 1.
