After a semester of collaboration and sharing jobs on the set, "A Work in Progress," a film produced by a class of Gainesville State College students will debut Friday evening at the school.
The film, about a group of students thrown together to work on their own class project in a short amount of time, is the result of English 2903, a special topics course held at the college.
"It’s basically a short film about six students, and ... they’re thrown together and forced to do a project," said Sarah Dean, a sophomore at Gainesville State who is majoring in English and history. "It’s mainly about their lives — things start happening all of a sudden and how they deal with it."
The 11 students in the class shared responsibilities for all aspects of the film’s production, from filming to directing to editing. David Dorcas, a sophomore media production major, said it was a great way for novice filmmakers to learn basic aspects of all the parts of a production.
"It was really a group effort. I definitely think we got more out of it," he said, adding that this was the largest project he’s worked on now that he’s pursuing a degree in the communication arts.
"I’m rather proud of what we accomplished. It was supposed to be a 15 minute film and it turned into a 40-45 minute film."
"A Work In Progress" will show at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Gainesville State’s Continuing Education auditorium.
