Along with seeing the majestic homes on Green Street on Sunday, amateur decorators and the plain ol’ curious have quite a few home tours to look forward to as well.

This weekend, Towns County holds its Christmas Tour of Homes to benefit Towns County Family Connection and the Empty Stocking Fund. There are six homes in all, and many include the natural surroundings of Hiawassee and Young Harris as their amenities, said Phyllis Gagnon, visitors center coordinator for Towns County.

The Ledford home, for example, has a sweeping view of Lake Chatuge and uses reclaimed doors and antique mirrors throughout its rooms. The home also boasts an outdoor kitchen and living area.

The Berrong home in Young Harris has views of the valley of Young Harris, Gagnon said, with a creek running through the front yard. Plus, the owners have a Disney-themed room decorated especially for their grandkids.

"All the homes will be decorated for Christmas," Gagnon said.

In Gainesville, the Theatre Wings group, which benefits Gainesville High School’s Theatre Department, is holding a Christmas tour of six "and a half" homes on or near Riverside Drive, said organizer Tricia McDuff.

"The three homes on Riverside are just exquisite," McDuff said, adding that one of the owners, Chandelle Summer, has created three gingerbread houses representing the three Riverside homes on the tour.

The tour also includes a show home at The Gardens, at the corner of Wessel and Piedmont roads. While it’s not occupied, McDuff said this "half" a home will be outfitted with antique furniture available for sale.

Proceeds form the tour will help send 38 Gainesville High theater students to Scotland in July for the annual Fringe festival.

On Dec. 15, Maysville will hold its Victorian Christmas Tour of Homes. Organizer Mary Hart said all seven of the homes are more than 100 years old and are located within the town’s historic district.

"We’re really proud that we’re one of the only local tours that has all historic homes," Hart said. "They’ve all been restored. Some of us have done new construction, added custom kitchens. Some have terrific history."
