There’s a jazz star coming to an arts center near you.
The Will Scruggs Fellowship kicks off the Arts Council’s Evenings of Intimate Jazz series at the Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center on Nov. 30.
Scruggs, an award-winning saxophonist who graduated from Emory, will perform with celebrated jazz pianist Louis Heriveaux as well as bassist Tommy Sauter and drummer Wayne Henderson.
The six-part jazz series will be held in the banquet hall of the Smithgall Arts Center through the spring and will feature a variety of jazz performances.
The series continues after the holidays with a performance on Jan. 26 by jazz pianist Lynne Arriale. Jazz singer Annie Sellick will croon on Feb. 8, and the Cuban jazz group Havana Son will perform Latin tunes and jazz standards on March 9.
Rachael Price will make her "Intimate Evenings of Jazz" debut on April 19, and the series concludes with an outdoor performance in the spring by The Jazz Guardians, an 18-member group from the U.S. Army Ground Forces Band. The Jazz Guardians will perform the music of big bands from times past, recalling jazz greats such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
Individual tickets to Evenings of Intimate Jazz are priced at $25, and a series ticket with access to all concerts costs $125.
