The circus is coming to town — but don’t expect lions, tigers and elephants.

This is a "modern circus," with the spotlight on performers of the human kind.

Tuffy Nicholas, an organizer for The Moscow International Circus, said attendees can expect to see acrobats, "aerial ballet" and even a "comedic trampoline" artist at the show on Sunday.

"It’s a spectacular circus, with artists from around the world, primarily Russia," Nicholas said.

The circus began more than 200 years ago in Moscow, but now also includes artists from other countries.

"We have some special guests from South America that do the ‘Wheel of Death,’" he said. "It’s where two people walk around a 50-foot-high wheel that is perfectly balanced with each other’s weight.

"When one of the artists steps off, the other person goes flying around the wheel, 50 feet high, doing acrobatic tricks."

Nicholas said another dangerous act, the "Russian Swing," also sends performers flying.

It’s "a big swing that six people stand on and they swing it all the way around, 360 degrees, and then fly off, one at a time, and fly all the way across the arena at about 100 miles an hour through the air, landing in a net on the other side of the arena."

The aerial ballet will feature dancers doing gymnastic poses, balancing on a "silk" up high in the arena.

And what about that funny trampoline guy?

"He is hilarious — not only is he a hilarious comedian, but he’s also a world-class acrobat. He does a three-and-a-half somersault, and he bounces off his back," Nicholas said.
