Guidelines for public notice advertising
- The deadline for placing public notice (legal) advertising in The Times’ Thursday public notice section is 5 p.m. Monday. All foreclosure notices are published in the Thursday section.
- In some cases, legal notices may be published on days other than Thursday. The deadline for those notices is two days prior to publication.
- In rare instances, The Times will accept legal advertising past deadline. In such instances, a $50 late fee will be charged. The Times is not liable for any content errors occurring in legal notices accepted past the set deadlines.
- Scheduled deadlnes are subject to change during holiday periods.
- Arrangements for payment must be made in advance of publication. Advertisers who do not have an existing account with The Times will be expected to submit payment in advance. The Times has the sole discretion as to whether to extend credit to any public notice advertiser, and may refuse credit for those accounts that do not remain current.
- A set-up fee equal to the cost of a single insertion will be assessed on any foreclosure cancelled after receipt and preparation but prior to publication.
- A $20 cancellation fee will be charged for all legal ads that are cancelled after the first insertion date.
- The Times liability for any legal notice is limited to the actual cost of the ad.
- Legal notices published as display advertising, (generally boxed in multiple columns) will be charged on a per-column-inch rate rather than on a per-word rate. Display advertising appearing the paper other than in the legal section will be charged at the non-profit rate on the current rate card.
- It is the responsibility of the advertiser to notify The Times immediately upon publication of any error in public notice advertising that needs to be corrected. Notification of errors is expected the day after publication.
- While public notices can be submitted to The Times via e-mail or fax, an original hard copy is requested. The Times is not responsible for errors in public notices that are the result of transmission problems. It is the responsibility of the advertisers to make The Times aware that a legal notice has been e-mailed or faxed for publication.
- The Times has no reasonable way to guarantee the confidentiality of any legal notice submitted via fax or e-mail and shall not be held responsible for doing so.
- Affidavits of publication will be provided upon request for a fee of $10.
- Tearsheets will be provided upon request at no charge.
