Thompson: Teach kids early about value of duct tape

OK folks, it's time for a duct tape tip: If you have a young toddler, put a piece of duct tape over their shoe laces so they'll stay tied while the child is playing. You'll also be educating the child on the value of duct tape. You can't start too young.

Thompson: Use your filters for more than coffee

Deborah, a regular reader and contributor to this column, recently shared some "coffee filter" tips with me. I'll confess, I never knew there were so many things you could do with coffee filters besides make coffee. For example, you can use them to clean windows and mirrors - they're lint free and don't leave streaks. You can use them to drain used cooking oil and remove food debris.
