Rich: Cooter’s story can inspire dreams

Brandon, the smart young man who has worked for me for years, isn't impressed by much at all. He's remarkably level-headed so fame or celebrity bounces off him like one of Penelope Ann's biscuits bounces off the floor.

Myers: To be first, line up last

Chloe is going through this stage where she wants to be first. When I take her and Cole to school, she wants to go inside before he does. When we're about to eat supper, she wants her plate before anyone else gets theirs. When she and Cole are taking medicine, she insists I give Cole his after she gets hers.

Thompson: Simple ideas lessen the hard work

If you've never heard of the Bigslider, let me tell you about it. This cool product helps you move large objects and can replace your wheelbarrow. It's basically a 2-foot by 5-foot piece of high-density Polyethylene and has a handle on one end. You can put a heavy load on the Bigslider like a large TV, a water heater or a big flower pot. Then you can easily slide the heavy load. The Bigslider can slide over carpet, concrete, asphalt and grass. The thing I really like about this product is that instead of picking up a heavy ...

Skaggs: A little work can be fruitful

If you have fruit trees, you have probably experienced the disappointment of watching apples or peaches grow to almost ripe, only to be wiped out by an insect or disease.

Murray: Lambrusco wine comes in quality varieties

I'm back. I hope somebody noticed I took a month off in January. Lots of "stuff" going on in December - including a visit from a brand new grandbaby - so I gave myself a brief hiatus for the start of the new year.

Rich: Sharing the gift of life’s wisdom

Readers have often reassured me that among their favorite columns are the ones in which I share the wisdom passed down to me by my parents. But just this morning I got to thinking: I have some wisdom, too, that I can share.

Thompson: Wordlock a nice idea with limited use

OK, I'm really torn about sharing this next gadget with you. It's called the Wordlock and it's basically a combination lock that uses letters instead of numbers.

Wilburn: Keep kids in mind when dating again

After a separation, divorce, or the death of a loved one, it takes time to cope with feelings and move on to another relationship.

Skaggs: Now is the time to take on plant pruning

Now is a prime time to prune plants, but only if you have a reason.

Wilburn: What’s your portion distortion?

You've probably noticed that food portions in restaurants have grown in size and provide enough food for at least two people. This can lead to weight gain.

Rich: Buying the cow gets you milk for free

To Rodney, my ever dutiful brother-in-law, I suggested that we get a community cow. What with dairy prices going so high and all.

Myers: With love, God will take what we are willing to give

I sometimes wonder if I love God enough.

Thompson: Nifty gadget keeps your earbuds in line

If you have an iPod, you know the hassle of storing your earbuds. Well, the Web site X-tremegeek.com has a product that solves this problem once and for all. It's called the iRoll Earphone Cord Manager. It's hard to describe how it works, but let me assure you it does. It's made out of a rubbery material and comes in blue and pink. The pictures help explain it better. (The first picture shows the device open and the second picture shows it closed). It's less than $10.

1, 2, 3s of overseeding lawn for year-round green

For most of us, the fall is the time of year for college football (GO DAWGS!), cool, crisp air in the mountains and raking leaves that seem to get everywhere. It is also a time of year when many people consider overseeding their warm season lawns to produce a green carpet of grass all year long.
