The students and their teachers, Lisa Martin and Scott Patrick, made the scarecrows as part of an intergenerational community service project with Kathryn Martin of CareSouth Home Health and the residents of Smoky Springs.

Lynda Holmes recently was named the grand-prize winner in Hall Book Exchange's recent reading marathon. Holmes, literacy promotion chairwoman for the Col. William Candler chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, brought in the most pledges and won an Atlanta Braves jacket, gift certificates and a golf umbrella, among other prizes.

The Rotary's Students of the Month were chosen by the faculty and staff of their respective schools for outstanding citizenship and their contributions to their school and their fellow classmates. Hannah is the daughter of Trish McCoy and David Cadenhead. She was accompanied to the luncheon by her mother and her teacher, Beth Hester.
