Chirstopher A. MaHaffey of Gainesville has been selected for membership into the National Society of High School Scholars. The East Hall High School student was chosen for his outstanding academic excellence.
Nicholas Blackwell obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Mercer University. Blackwell graduated as member of the Phi Lambda Sigma National Leadership Society. He is the son of Doug and Christi Blackwell of Gainesville.
The Northeast Georgia Writers' club recently held its 37th annual awards banquet at the Gainesville Elks Lodge, announcing winners of the 2011 writing contests. Local author and illustrator Robyn Hood Black was the keynote speaker, presenting a "Journey Through Words and Pictures."
Abigail Coleman of Gainesville has been chosen winner of the Hall County Chapter of Georgia Right to Life Oratory and Writing contest. The contest was open to all Hall County juniors and seniors. Coleman is a student at North Georgia Christian School. She will represent Hall County in the state contest in Lawrenceville.
Cadets John Kishimoto and Justin Beverly of Gainesville were recently presented with a commendation and their first set of second lieutenant gold bars by the members of Georgia Mountain Chapter, Military Officers Association of America.
The National Federation of Music Clubs has awarded gold cups to 41 area piano, voice and strings students who participated in the annual North Gainesville Music Festival held recently at Brenau University.
