North Hall High School's Speech and Debate Team recently participated along with 11 other high school teams in a tournament at Sequoia High School in Canton. Sophomore Rachel Glazer placed first in Dramatic Interpretation. Glazer and senior Eli LoCicero placed second in Duo Interpretation. Sophomore Luke Tucker, competing in his first tournament, placed third in Humorous Interpretation. Senior Rob Brooksher was awarded the third-place speaker's trophy for Student Congress. The team's sponsor is Steven Wang.

Army Sgt. Maj. Tamela Dean recently graduated from the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas. She is the daughter of Linda Faye Webb of Gainesville and Fred Lee Webb Sr. of Dahlonega. She is a 1988 graduate of East Hall High School in Gainesville and is now stationed in Korea.

Ambassador Claudia Fritsche recently presented the 2009 Abit Massey Lecture at a recent meeting of the Georgia Poultry Federation and received the lecture medal and an honorarium, which she donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fritsche is from Liechtenstein and is the country's first resident ambassador in Washington, D.C.
