The Northeast Georgia Writers' club recently held its 37th annual awards banquet at the Gainesville Elks Lodge, announcing winners of the 2011 writing contests. Local author and illustrator Robyn Hood Black was the keynote speaker, presenting a "Journey Through Words and Pictures."

Abigail Coleman of Gainesville has been chosen winner of the Hall County Chapter of Georgia Right to Life Oratory and Writing contest. The contest was open to all Hall County juniors and seniors. Coleman is a student at North Georgia Christian School. She will represent Hall County in the state contest in Lawrenceville.

Hall County 4-H'ers recently competed at the 4-H District Project Achievement held March 4-6 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton. To be eligible to compete, the 4-H'ers submitted a portfolio in January that highlights their project and leadership activities, community service and other school and community related activities.
