The Lyman Hall chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution recently honored America's first president, George Washington, and his birthday during an event at the president's monument in Gainesville.

Forty people attended the ceremony, including Gainesville Mayor Ruth Bruner, city council members Myrtle Figueras and George Wangeman, Rep. Tommy Benton, who is also a member of Sons of the American Revolution, and Hall County Sheriff Steve Cronic. Other deputies, Gainesville police officers, Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution also attended the event.
