Hall County Family Treatment Court Coordinator Kathy Norton recently received the Child Advocate Award in a presentation at the Georgia Bar Association in Atlanta.

The award was given by the Juvenile Law Committee of the Young Lawyers' Division of the State Bar of Georgia to recognize the contributions of outstanding attorneys and non-attorney advocates serving the needs of Georgia's children, youth and families. Of the six award categories, Norton received the award for Deprivation, Non-Legal Advocate for meeting the needs of court-involved children.

Taylor Ricketts of Gainesville has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2010 semester at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C. To be eligible for this honor, students must have a GPA of at least 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Lifeline recently hosted a luncheon to honor volunteers who work with the emergency response system. Special guest speaker was Tom Smiley, pastor of Lakewood Baptist Church, who congratulated Lifeline volunteers for 26 years of preserving the dignity of the physically disabled, medically at risk and older adults in our community. Guests also paid tribute to Jim Telford, founder of Lifeline.

Zoe Rafford, a sixth-grader at Jefferson Middle School, was the overall winner named out of a dozen students statewide to win the Georgia Municipal Association's annual essay contest, "If I Were Mayor, I Would ..." Radford wrote that she would increase efforts to bring tourists to Jefferson, build a nature center and teach people to be more environmentally friendly if she were mayor.

Hall County 4-H students compete in district project
