DOT starts bidding on traffic signal projects

Friday morning, the Georgia Department of Transportation opened the three bids submitted for a project to replace traffic signals at 11 intersections in downtown Gainesville.

The apparent low bidder of the project is World Fiber Technologies out of Alpharetta, which submitted a bid of $1,849,573.44, according to Teri Pope, DOT spokeswoman.

Lawyer argues for judge’s removal in death penalty case

A lawyer for a murder defendant facing the possibility of the death penalty said the presiding judge violated his own order by obtaining information about the case outside of court.

Hall County Superior Court Judge Jason Deal obtained jail disciplinary reports on Alan Robert Dickie in June, apparently without the knowledge of the defense or prosecution, which attorney Doug Ramseur argued in a hearing Friday was a violation of court rules.

Gainesville halts annexation plan

Protesting will not be necessary for Reidling now that Gainesville city leaders have dropped a controversial plan to annex islands of unincorporated Hall County into the city limits.
