Braselton man, teen son killed in Marietta collision

A Braselton man and his teenage son were killed in a head-on collision Sunday night in Marietta.

Rod Godfrey, 47, died in the helicopter en route to the hospital, and Eric Godfrey, 17, died at the scene of the crash, the Marietta Police Department reported.

Gainesville school board decides Enota crosswalk will wait for now

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville school board voted Monday night to hold off on a possible crosswalk at Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy to see how other traffic and safety recommendations play out.

Earlier this month, the board asked school officials to look at the possibility of a raised crosswalk in the front parking lot at Enota, as a way to help with pedestrian traffic during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup of students.

Gainesville couple at epicenter of Atlanta storm

Although no tornadoes reportedly touched down in Hall County Saturday, tornado devastation did hit home for several Hall County residents who were in downtown Atlanta Friday night when a tornado mangled the CNN Center.

The EF-2 tornado registered winds near 130 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The tornado first touched down near the intersection of Simpson and Burbank streets at 9:38 p.m. and traveled six miles east over the Georgia World Congress Center, the Georgia Dome, the CNN Center and Omni Hotel Complex and Philips Arena, where an NBA basketball game was under way.
